Our interdisciplinary research group investigates how terrestrial ecosystems respond and adapt to climate change. We study how organic matter forms and persists in soils, and how carbon and nutrients cycle from soils to rivers. We combine field and lab experimentation to evaluate how biological communities (including plants and microorganisms) regulate energy flows at the watershed scale. Research projects have taken place in the Arctic tundra, subalpine rivers, arid rangelands, and wet eucalyptus forests.
